Top Salkantay Trek & Machu Picchu Tour  begins in the zone of Markukasa one hour beyond Mollepata village; from where the trail climbs up gentle to Soraypamapa zone and then continue to Salkantaypampa; the trail continue steeply zigzag up toward the small lagoons of Suyruccocha camp; from here, the trail continue 45 minutes of gentle up to the highest pass (4,600 masl). From the pass, the trail descends through the left side of the valley; it becoming indistinct in swampy areas and later to the wonderful cloud forest. The last day, very early we’ll take the bus for 25 minutes and explore Machu Picchu before the crowds arrive from Cusco. then we’ll retur to Cusco.

OUTLINE ITINERARY

Day 1: Drive from Cusco to Markukasa and trek to Suyroccocha camp

Early pick-up from you hotel in the city of Csuco; and 3:30 hours travel in our private bus to Markukasa zone; the starting point of the trek. Then, we’ll start the hike until Suyroccocha camp.

Day 2: Trek from Suyroccocha camp to Chaullay

Continue the ascent toward the Salkantay pass (4,600m); The highest of the trek.  Then we decent through the moraine until our private camp at chaullay. Here is where the cloud forest starts.

Day 3:Trek from Chaullay – Playa Sawayaco camp

We’ll hike through Santa Teresa  River/Valley; with the presence of dense vegetation and sub-tropical plantations; great quantity of wildlife in their natural habitat; enjoy the waterfalls along the trail.

Day 4: Trek from Playa Sawayaco to Aguas Calientes town

The trek continues with 3 hours climbing up toward the “Llacatapata Pass”; from where you can observe Machu Picchu and Huayna Picchu Mountains. Then, we’ll descend to hydroelectric zone and in the afternoon; we’ll walk following the railway for two hours until the town of “Aguas Calientes”.

Day 5: Exeplore Machu Picchu

Full-day will be dedicated to explore the stunning Machu Picchu; in the afternoon we’ll return by train to Ollantaytambo train station, from here you’ll be transferred by bus to Cusco.

Day 1
Cusco - Mollepata - Markukasa - Suyroccocha

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY: Guided Walking from Makukasa to Suyruccocha with not too many tourists in the camp; visit the Humantay Lagoon and views of the magnificent “Apu Salkantay”. Today we’ll camp in the skirts of the massive Salkantay Mountain.

TREK DEATILS: This five-day Top Salkantay Trek & Machu Picchu Tour starts once we pick you up from you hotel at 05:00 a.m and travel in our private bus to “Markukasa”. It’s a beautiful 3:30 hours scenic journey through small and picturesque villages like: Izcuchaca, Ancahuasi and Limatambo; we will stop for breakfast in the village of Mollepata. Here also you can purchase some items for the trek; then we’ll continue 30 minutes journey to Markukasa.

We start walking with a gradual climb for about 3 hours through a pristine Andean Valley until Soraypamapa where our lunch will be served; in the afternoon, we’ll visit the picturesque lagoon of Umantay, where you can feel and visualize the harmony of yourself; then we descent from the lagoon and continue the trek to Suyroccocha camp or at Soraypampa; it depends the evolution of the group.

Day 2
Trek from Suyroccocha to Chaullay

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY: Escorted trek along the Salkantay trail with the top view of the biggest peak. Views of the Salkantay Mountain and incredible views of the cloud forest and arrive in Chaullay; where you’ll see wonderful flora and fauna.

TREK DETAILS: Our adventure will take us through a totally different change in environment; from dry sceneries to snowy peaks and tropical areas. After breakfast, we will start the most difficult part of the trek. We will start to hike at 07:00 a.m and after one hour, we will arrive to the highest point (4,600 masl). Here, we will enjoy spectacular views of the mountains and the imposing snowy peak of the Salkantay (6,271 m); which is the second highest mountain in Cusco.

From the pass, we’ll continue two hours downhill trough old moraine to Huayrocmachay where our lunch will be served. In the afternoon, we continue two hours down to our camp in Chaullay (2,920masl).

Day 3
Trek from Chaullay to Playa Sawayaco

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY: Appreciate beutiful mountain scenery and wildlife; while trekking through the jungle zone; you’ll see different wild fruits like: banana, avocado, passion fruit, etc. There are also waterfalls and water streams where you can refresh your feet in or take a shower in fresh water.

TREK DETAILS: Today the trek will be more gentle down through dense vegetated valley with presence of different types of birds and flowers. We’ll start the trek at 07:00 a.m; walk for about 6 hours toward “Playa Sahuayaco” and during this period; we will pass by the Community of Collpapampa; where people farm potatoes and different types of corn; here also we’ll start walking through the cloud forest; where we’ll have the chance to walk through the pristine forest and see wildlife in their natural habita.

If we are lucky, we will be able to observe the famous Peruvian national bird named “Cock of the Rocks”. Once we arrive to the camp of Playa sawayaco, the tour guide can change the itinerary and continue to Santa Teresa; where you will have the choice to be in the hot springs. Entrance to the hot springs and the public transport for one hour are not included (25 soles or US$ 10).

Day 4
Trek from Playa Sawayaco to Aguas Calientes town

HIGHLIGHTS OF TODAY: Today we’ll visits Llactapata Inca ruins; hike on the original Inca trail and get some experience from the native inhabitants; you’ll have the option to harvest several fruits and have one of the best views of the Urubamba valley. See The Salkantay Mountain in the background and have your first glance on Machu Picchu.

TREK DATAILS: Today, we walk toward the Lactapata pass, the weather will be warm since the altitude is low and the zone belongs to the beginning of the Amazon Jungle. We start the trek at 07:00 a.m and continue 45 minutes down to Lucmabamba community from where the trail ascent toward Llacatapata Pass (2,700 masl) from here you can observe Machu Picchu and Huayna Picchu mountains.

After we rest and take enough pictures, we continue downhill through coffee, banana, orange and other tropical plantations to Hydroelectric zone where our lunch will be served; in the afternoon, we’ll continue following the railway through Urubamba River/Valley until the town of “Aguas Calientes” and have accommodation in the hotel. This night, the guide will explain you about the tour of Machu Picchu.

Day 5
Explore Machu Picchu and return to Cusco

HIGHLIGHTS OF TODAY: Get Machu Picchu very early; Guide tour of the stunning Machu Picchu; enjoy a free time for further exploration within Machu Picchu (optional climb the mountain of Huaynapicchu or Machu Picchu); explore the picturesque town of Aguas Calientes.

TREK DATAILS: Full-day can be dedicated to explore Machu Picchu. We will have early breakfast in the hotel and take the bus at 05:30 a.m. Guided tour for 2-3 hours and plenty of free time for further exploring; photos and optional climb of the Huayna Picchu Mountain (see available space- entrance are not included US$30 ).

Normally at around 01:00 p.m people return down to the town of “Aguas Calientes” for lunch and at approximately 04:30 p.m, we’ll take our returning train to Ollantaytambo train station, then a bus connection to the city of Cusco.

FIELD STAFFS

We are  very much concern about the comfort of our guest and whenever it is about the staffs in the field. When we are on trek trekking through challenging route we need proper number of workers like Guide, Porter, Assistance guide, Camping members and other staffs. For the trek is provide 1 assistance guide over 8 guests and the maximum number of guess are 12. We do need strong and portable Porters to carry our weights, is provide 1.5 porter for every guest or one horse for every guess, depending on guest stuffs and we allow only 20 kg for porters. You’ll have have professional and expert Guide, Leader and City guide in the field and can speak proper English, French, Spanish, and other required. We can also manage any other staffs as per your demand.

We believe equipments does matter to make your trip easy and comfortable. Caring excessive quantity of equipment doesn’t make your adventure more interesting but the drawback. So, we request you to carry only selected and needed one and save your extra expenses for other need in trek though we have our potential porters. Warm Clothes, Down Jacket, Trouser, T-shirt, Hiking Boot, Sunglass, Sun cream, Knife, Walking Steak, day back pack, Head Light, Sleeping Bag etc. These are the equipments which you most carry during the trek.
